What is security awareness training (SAT)?
Security awareness training (SAT) teaches employees to recognize threats such as phishing, social engineering and unsafe data handling, and what to do when they see one. Many regulations and frameworks require it, so most organizations run it at least once a year.
How it works
Programs usually combine short modules, policy acknowledgments and phishing simulations. Mature programs aim the training: people who face more attacks, or hold more access, get more relevant content, and training arrives close to the moment it is needed.
Completion rates prove that training happened. Whether it changed behavior is a separate question, answered by behavior data such as reporting rates and repeat incidents.
Why it matters
Training is still the main way people learn what an attack looks like. It works best as one action among several, sent to the people who need it, and measured by the change in risk.
