Glossary · Human and AI agent risk

AI agent risk

The security risk created by AI agents that act on a person’s behalf with their own access to systems and data.

Also called agentic AI risk

What is AI agent risk?

AI agent risk is the security risk created by AI agents, software that takes actions on a person’s behalf, such as reading mail, querying data or changing records, with access of its own. An agent can be manipulated, over-privileged or left running without an owner.

How it works

Agents inherit the risks of the people who run them and add their own: prompt injection, excessive permissions, data sent to the wrong place, and actions no one reviews. They also multiply quickly, often outside any inventory.

Managing the risk starts with an inventory of agents, an accountable owner for each, least-privilege access, and monitoring of what each agent does.

Why it matters

The riskiest user may not always be human anymore. But the accountable one still is. Security programs built only around people miss a growing share of the identities that act in the business.

How Living Security helps

Living Security scores every AI agent in the same Human Risk Index as people, on threat, access and behavior, and ties each agent to an accountable owner.
