Identity and access management

The policies and tools that control who can sign in to what, and with which permissions.

Also called IAM

What is identity and access management (IAM)?

Identity and access management (IAM) is the set of policies and tools that establish who a user, device or AI agent is, and control what each can access. It covers sign-in, MFA, single sign-on, provisioning, access reviews and privileged access.

How it works

Identity providers such as Okta and Microsoft Entra ID centralize sign-in and policy. Identity governance tools handle who should have which access and review it over time.

Identity is now the main perimeter: most attacks aim to steal or misuse a legitimate identity rather than break through a network.

Why it matters

Every person and agent with access is a way in. Matching access to current risk, and removing what is no longer needed, shrinks what an attacker can reach.

How Living Security helps

Living Security reads identity signals, such as MFA hygiene and privileged roles, and its playbooks can push changes back into Okta or Entra ID, so permissions follow risk.
