ℹ️ Before setting up Slack and Microsoft Teams as Workflow actions, review this article for an overview of Workflows and their capabilities.

Overview

In Unify, workflows are automated processes that respond to specific security insights by initiating predefined actions. These actions can include sending targeted messages, known as “nudges,” through integrations with communication tools like Microsoft Teams and Slack. By leveraging these nudges, organizations can proactively address human-related risks by delivering timely, informative prompts to employees, thereby enhancing overall security awareness.

In the following sections, we will guide you through the configuration process for setting up these nudge actions within your workflows, ensuring seamless integration with both Microsoft Teams and Slack.

Setting Up The Integrations

From your Unify dashboard, navigate to Workflows in the left-hand menu.

Click Create New Workflow and follow the steps outlined in our Unify Workflows Overview Guide until you reach Step 3: Choose the Action.

At this step, a side panel will appear with multiple action options, including Slack Nudge and Microsoft Teams Nudge.

    Set Up The Slack Integration

To set up the Slack Nudge, click Slack Nudge. Now click Install Slack App.

You’ll be redirected to your Training Account settings. From there, follow our guide to integrate Slack, stopping at the end of the Slack Integration Setup section.

💡Did you know? our Training Platform can also send Slack notifications to participants about their assigned security awareness training. Click here to learn more.

Now that the Slack Integration has been completed, head back to the Workflow area to configure the action.

    Set Up The Teams Integration

To set up the Slack Nudge, click Slack Nudge. Now click Authorize Your Account.

You’ll be redirected to your Training Account settings. From there, follow our guide to integrate Microsoft Teams, stopping at the end of the Microsoft Teams Integration Setup section.

💡Did you know? our Training Platform can also send Teams notifications to participants about their assigned security awareness training. Click here to learn more.

Now that the Teams Integration has been completed, head back to the Workflow area to configure the action.

    Configuring The Action

Now that the integration is complete, you can customize, test, and save your message based on the criteria defined in your Workflow setup. This message will be sent to Identities captured in your Workflow configuration when the automation triggers. For example, if you selected the ‘Login Successful with MFA’ Insight, you might use a message like, ‘Good job using MFA and keeping our organization safe!’ This type of nudge reinforces positive cybersecurity hygiene.

Alternatively, nudges can inform users of risk. For example, using the ‘Phish Targeted’ Insight messages users that they were targeted by malicious activity, encouraging them to stay vigilant.

ℹ️ Currently, nudges are sent to the email address that Unify determines is most likely associated with an Identity, based on the declared Source of Truth. If your environment uses a different email address than the one prioritized by our entity resolution logic, the nudge may fail. If you notice that nudges are not being delivered, you can define alternative email addresses in the test section of the message builder to troubleshoot.
