Email Client Compatibility and Rendering Expectations

Living Security emails are delivered using SendGrid. While we test emails across common email clients, final rendering is controlled by the recipient’s email client and device, not by Living Security.

This article explains what we test, known limitations, and how customer-modified templates can affect email appearance.

How Email Rendering Works

Email clients (such as Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail) each interpret HTML and CSS differently. As a result:

• The same email may look different across clients

• Rendering may vary by device, operating system, and app version

• User settings (such as dark mode or accessibility preferences) can alter appearance

Living Security does not control how individual email clients render content once delivered.

Email Clients We Regularly Test

Living Security regularly tests default email templates in the following clients:

• Gmail

  • Web

  • Mobile (iOS and Android)

• Microsoft Outlook

  • Desktop

  • Web (Outlook.com / Microsoft 365)

Even within these clients, rendering may differ based on version, device, and user settings.

Known Email Client Limitations

Some email clients have well-known rendering constraints. For example:

Microsoft Outlook

• Uses Microsoft Word as its rendering engine

• Limited support for modern CSS

• Inconsistent image sizing and spacing

• Dark mode may override background and text colors

These behaviors are controlled by Outlook and cannot be overridden by Living Security.

Customer-Modified Email Templates

Customers may customize email templates by adding images, modifying HTML, or adjusting formatting. While this flexibility is supported, it introduces additional variability.

Important Considerations

• Custom HTML or CSS may not render consistently across email clients

• Images may scale or align differently depending on the client

• Some styling may be ignored or altered by certain clients

Living Security cannot guarantee consistent rendering for customer-modified templates across all email clients.
