Data Integration Guide - Mimecast v2

Prerequisites

The designated administrator must be assigned a Role with the following criteria:

  • Read and Edit API Application Permissions under the Service Menu.
  • Security Permissions setting must permit the Management of Application Roles.
    Custom roles should be created for each API 2.0 Application with the least required privileges applied.

Create the API application role

  1. Sign in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
  2. Navigate to Account > Roles (If the New Menu toggle is enabled, navigate to Account > Admin Roles).
  3. Click New Role, and then in the Properties section, configure these settings:
    1. Role Name - Enter a unique name for the role. For example, Living Security Unify.
    2. Description - Enter a description for the role.
  4. In the Application Permissions section, clear all of the checkboxes.
  5. Select these checkboxes:
    1. Monitoring Menu > DLP > Read
    2. Monitoring Menu > Attachment Protection > Read
    3. Monitoring Menu > Impersonation Protection Logs > Read
    4. Monitoring Menu > URL Protection > Read
  6. Click Save and Exit.

Create the API application

  1. Sign in to the Mimecast Administration Console.
  2. Navigate to Integrations > API and Platform Integrations.
  3. Click the Available Integrations tab.
  4. Locate the Mimecast API 2.0 tile and click on Generate Keys.
  5. After reading the Terms & Conditions, complete the I accept check box to enable the Next button to progress onto the next step.
  6. On the Add Mimecast API 2.0 Application page, in the Details section, configure these settings:
    • Application Name - Enter a unique name for the API application.

    • Category - Select Digital Risk.

    • Products - Search for and select the Audit Events and Security Events checkboxes, and then click Apply.

    • Application Role - Select the role that you created in Create the API application role.

    • Description - Enter a description for the API application.

  7. Click Next.
  8. On the Add Mimecast API 2.0 Application page, in the Notifications section, configure these settings:
    • Technical Point of Contact - Provide the full name of the individual whom Mimecast should contact for technical matters. This is typically the user responsible for configuring the API application.

    • Email - Enter the business email address for the technical point of contact. Ensure this email is active and registered within your Mimecast directory.

  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Add and Generate Keys.
  11. In the Manage API 2.0 Credentials for <application_name> dialog, copy the Client ID and Client Secret values, and then paste them in a safe, encrypted location. You will enter them into Unify later.

Enter your credentials into Unify

From the administrative view in Unify:
  1. Select Integrations.
  2. Find Mimecast V2 Client and click +Add.
  3. Name the integration appropriately and choose the Pull from remote API option.
  4. Click Add Integration.
  5. Enter the Client ID and Client Secret into their appropriate fields.
  6. Click Save.
